NSG America announces the availability of the robust SELMUX™ package for a broad range of chip based thin film filter products.
Anaheim, CA (March 26, 2007) NSG, the creator of the SELFOC[R] lens and world’s leading supplier of gradient index lenses, announces the expansion of its SELMUX packaging technology to cover all chip based thin film filter applications including wideband Wavelength Division Multiplexers (WDMs), Coarse WDMs, Dense WDMs, and Gain Flattening Filter (GFF) modules. The SELMUX packaging platform boasts fewer constituent piece parts, fully compliant (6 of 6) to EU directives on the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), qualified to Telcordia GR 1221 standards, and is the only field proven filter based WDM product capable of operating at -40°C to +85°C for rigorous outside plant (OSP) requirements.
The first release of the SELMUX platform at ECOC in September 2005 was based on NSG’s proprietary Filter-on-Lens (FOL™) wavelength discrimination technology. By expanding the coverage to include a broad range of chip based filters, the beneficial features of the SELMUX package are now available to the entire field of filter based component applications.
NSG SELMUX is a proprietary packaging platform that leverages the strength of the SELFOC lens technology. Through novel tuning of the refractive index profile of the SELFOC lens used in the SELMUX, optical performance is optimized. Moreover, the SELMUX package is comprised of fewer piece parts than competing chip based 3 port filter package platforms. Fewer piece parts equate to superior reliability and better long term cost reduction potential.
Doug Hornaday, VP of Sales for NSG America states, “NSG is an industry leader in materials science and high volume manufacturing. The elegance of SELMUX gives new evidence of our commitment to providing industry leading products in the optical component market space. By expanding the SELMUX™ to utilize all types of filter chips, NSG takes the lead to cost effectively serve these market needs.”
